This unique wildlife day-tour brings you face-to-face with one of Australia’s deadliest creatures – the saltwater crocodile, which can grow to 6m long and live for more than 70 years. About 30km south of Airlie Beach, the Proserpine River has the highest concentration of ‘salties’ on Australia’s east coast, with around 150 resident crocs.
About the tour From Hamilton Island, cruise to Airlie Beach on the mainland. A 40-minute coach ride takes you through sugarcane plantations to the muddy banks of the Proserpine River. From here, a friendly ranger takes you croc-spotting in a large, secure, flat-bottom vessel. The tour continues to the spectacular Goorganga Wetlands, where you’ll ride on an open-air tractor train and spy birds, wallabies and snakes. Enjoy a delicious barbecue lunch, plus traditional billy tea and damper for afternoon tea.
